THE DETAILS

Backroad Barn features 4,200 square feet of rustic, elegant space. An old wooden grain bin is now the “Distillery Bar.” Plumbing brought the outhouse inside; a double stall lady’s powder room and gentleman’s lounge.  An original 1800's grainery offers a chapel backdrop. The master of ceremonies are seated at an antique feed manger. The 50-foot by 35-foot arched dance hall includes chimney exhaust. To keep those little ones occupied, the field house includes a basketball hoop and other activities. An acre of outside gardens are home to hundreds of varieties of blooming bulbs, shrubs, perennials, and annuals. There are many sites that can be used for pictures or an outside ceremony. A small pond which is one of two water features on the property was the cows covered watering hole.

OUR HISTORY

The Backroad Barn and Gardens is owned by David and Jane Rieman. The barn was built in three phases. The stately main structure standing 45 feet at peak was built in the 1920's by Jane’s grandpa, which then housed a team of horses and milk cows. An addition in 1967 added the milkhouse and maternity pen with a straw mow, above which in the last decade was converted to an athletic field house. The last barn addition in 1978 doubled the herd size and added mow feed storage. Now the arched roof is home to an original wood dance floor and seating.

David and Jane are both employed in the large animal industry. Life on the farm is simple but busy with the blessing of three boys.
